Private decision coaching

Which choice deserves your effort?

When one consequential decision keeps pulling your attention back, more activity may not help. Bring it to a focused 90-minute session. We will examine the priorities and tradeoffs, capture a written Decision Record and define your next 30 days of action.

By selecting Get Decision Clarity, you confirm that you are at least 18 and agree to the Coaching Terms and Policies and Privacy Policy. The $400 payment covers one reserved 90-minute session.

The situation

01

Make room for the decision before adding more to the plan.

This session is for experienced leaders weighing a specific choice about work, direction or competing responsibilities. Several options may be reasonable. The work is to determine which one deserves your effort, and why.

More goals cannot settle competing priorities for you. A productivity system can organize tasks after you choose what matters. We focus on one decision that is specific enough for a single session, with practical next actions rather than a promise to solve every part of your life.

Put your effort behind a priority you deliberately choose, with the people and responsibilities affected by that choice in view. You define what acting like the leader you want to be looks like in your next practical step.

The work

Five movements, focused on one decision.

We use the parts of this working framework your decision requires. It is a guide to the conversation, not a promise that every uncertainty disappears in 90 minutes.

01

See Clearly

Define the decision and separate known facts from assumptions and pressure.

02

Decide What Matters

Name the priorities, responsibilities and constraints that shape the choice.

03

Explore and Choose

Compare realistic options and tradeoffs, then identify the decision or next direction you are prepared to own.

04

Move to Action

Write concrete next actions for the coming 30 days, with dates, resources and support.

05

Review and Adjust

Decide what evidence you will review and when. You carry out this review after the session; ongoing coaching and repeated revisions are not included.

You own the answer, decision, action and accountability. I guide the conversation, ask direct questions and help make the tradeoffs visible. The choice and follow-through stay with you.

The result

Your written Decision Record.

Use the record at your independent review point to compare what you intended with what you actually attempted, what happened and what you will adjust. Progress is grounded in your actions and the evidence you gather.

  • The decision or direction you choose, and the reasoning behind it.
  • Your priorities and explicit tradeoffs, including what you choose not to pursue.
  • Concrete 30-day next actions, with a first step and dates you choose.
  • Any unresolved questions, evidence to gather and a review point for your own use.

Before you begin

Before you choose the session.

How is this different from another plan or assessment?

We start with the decision the plan needs to serve. The record captures what matters, the alternatives and your tradeoffs before turning the choice into next actions.

Should I be able to decide this myself?

You keep ownership of the answer. A focused conversation provides questions, reflection and room to examine assumptions without handing the choice to someone else.

What if I am still uncertain?

We record what remains unknown and the next step that could clarify it. A consequential decision may need more evidence than one session can provide. I will not force a choice or promise certainty.

What if I do not follow through, or my responsibilities get in the way?

We plan around actual limits, identify support and define a manageable first action. You own the follow-through and later review. This purchase does not include ongoing accountability support or repeated plan revisions.

Why Kirby

Clear thinking shaped by real responsibility.

This is not abstract motivation. The work draws from lived leadership, formal coaching study, resilience practice, and a substantial body of public teaching.

In Dangerous, But Governed, I describe an Army career decision that looked closed after my first request was denied. Another man helped me see a route I had missed through an available Airborne School slot. Completing the school gave me a path to submit again. His perspective expanded my options. The decision, work and follow-through remained mine. A useful conversation can do that without taking the choice away from you.
