Genesis 1:26–31 is the most ignored leadership mandate in the Bible, often referred to as the dominion mandate.
It doesn’t say, “Welcome to the world. Now behave.”
It doesn’t say, “Be safe, stay humble, and don’t mess up.”
It says:
Rule. Subdue. Multiply. Lead.
Before sin entered the world, before the Fall, before there was a Sabbath, there was a commission.
Therefore, God made man and did not wait a beat. Moreover, He handed over responsibility. He stamped Adam with His image and gave him orders.
You were not created to be passive.
Instead, you were created to govern.
Bear the Image—Act Like It
Let’s be clear. The image of God is not a decorative trait. It’s a transfer of function.
God rules, so you rule.
Likewise, He creates, so you create.
Finally, He multiplies, so you multiply.
In other words, this is not abstract theology. It’s practical doctrine for daily action.
Genesis 1:26 says:
“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule…”
God didn’t give Adam a probationary period. He gave him dominion.
Therefore, from Day One, you were born into responsibility—not comfort.
You want to feel like a man again? Stop searching for affirmations. Instead, live like someone commissioned.
Multiplication Is Not a Suggestion
God blessed Adam and said:
“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule…” (v.28)
For example, fruitfulness is not only about having children. It’s about producing results in every domain under your charge.
If your life, marriage, business, or body is stagnating—don’t blame God.
Blame disobedience.
Because fruitlessness is rebellion.
However, God did not make man to float. Instead, He made man to fill.
The command was not “try.” The command was “multiply.”
Neither did He say “watch over it.” He commanded, “Subdue it.”
Too many men are managing what they were meant to master.
Dominion Means You Go First
Genesis doesn’t say Eve was created and then Adam received his purpose.
Instead, God gives the mandate directly to the man. Therefore, the weight falls on you.
Therefore, you must:
- Set the standard
- Bear the burden
- Lead the charge
- Answer for the outcome
This is not toxic masculinity. It’s biblical masculinity.
If you’ve been sitting on your hands, hoping God will “reveal” your mission, read Genesis 1.
It’s already revealed.
Rule. Multiply. Subdue. Lead.
In other words, this is Eden. Therefore, God expects you to build on it.
Stop Living Like You’re Powerless
God gave man dominion over:
- The fish
- The birds
- The livestock
- The earth
- Everything that moves
That means your leadership is designed to touch every category of creation.
However, many men today cannot even lead themselves out of bed without snoozing twice.
You weren’t made to be passive. You were made to take initiative.
- Don’t wait for your wife to initiate prayer.
- Likewise, do not wait for your boss to tell you to step up.
- Instead, step forward and serve your church.
Yet you have carried the green light since Genesis 1.
In other words, you do not need another call—you need to respond.
A Good World Still Required a Good Man
Genesis 1 ends by saying:
“God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.” (v.31)
Even in a perfect world, God still placed man in charge.
Therefore, that tells you something.
Responsibility isn’t a result of sin—it’s part of the original design.
In other words, avoiding it is not safety. It’s rebellion.
Ultimately, the command to rule is not a punishment.
It’s a privilege.
A mission.
A holy burden that makes you more like your Father in heaven.
What Now?
First, you do not need a pastor to lay hands on you.
God already did when He formed you in His image.
Second, you do not need a motivational speaker to pump you up.
God already spoke:
“Be fruitful. Multiply. Subdue. Rule.”
Therefore, pick up the assignment.
Lead where you’ve been lazy.
Multiply what you’ve been managing.
Subdue the chaos.
Rule what’s been ruling you.
However, this is not the time to soften your grip.
It’s the time to take your ground.
Ultimately, Eden was not the end. It was the starting line.
In fact, God did not create you to survive it.
He created you to steward it, expand it, and turn it into something greater.
Therefore, here is your charge:
