For years, the Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) has stood as the nation’s largest digital tribute to our brothers and sisters who served. Nearly 10 million veterans are honored on that platform, with stories told by loved ones after they’ve passed.

But now—for the first time ever—you can tell your own story before you go.

The Department of Veterans Affairs just expanded VLM with a powerful new tool called “Your Story, Your Legacy.”And if you’ve already been approved for pre-need burial eligibility in a VA cemetery, you can now privately upload photos, service history, personal milestones, and written reflections directly to your memorial page.

How It Works

1. Apply for pre-need burial eligibility here: VA Pre-Need Eligibility
2. Once approved, you’ll receive an email linking you to the “Your Story, Your Legacy” portal.
3. Upload your content privately—photos, autobiographies, historical documents, life milestones, and more.
4. When you pass, your profile will be published and live on vlm.cem.va.gov, where others can view and contribute.

All submissions are reviewed by VA moderators for security and respect.
