Summer Bucket List ≠ Just BBQ and Baseball

8 Intentional Ways to Strengthen Your Family This Summer

When we think about summer, our minds often go straight to hot dogs on the grill, baseball games under the lights, and road trips with the windows down. And while those are all great—we need something deeper.

What if your summer bucket list wasn’t just fun…but foundational?

What if it wasn’t just about making memories—but securing your family’s future?

This summer, I’m challenging you (and myself) to be more intentional. Not just with how we spend our time—but with how we protect, prepare, and pour into the people we love most.

Here’s my June Family Bucket List—8 powerful actions to strengthen your family not just physically, but spiritually, emotionally, and financially:

  1. Have That Hard Conversation About the Future
We avoid talking about death like it’s a contagious disease—but the truth is, the most loving thing you can do is talk openly about your wishes. Your family deserves clarity and peace—not chaos.
  2. Get Your Legal Documents in Order
Wills. Powers of attorney. Health care directives. These aren’t just paperwork—they’re a shield of protection. If you’ve been putting it off, make June the month you finally check it off the list.
  3. Create (or Revisit) a Family Budget
Money shouldn’t be a mystery. Sit down, pull back the curtain, and talk about income, expenses, savings goals, and giving. Let your kids see how you steward resources wisely.
  4. Make a No-Cost Burial & Will Kit a Priority
I offer these to veteran families all the time—because I’ve seen what happens when it’s too late. This is one of the easiest, most powerful steps you can take to bring peace of mind.
  5. Strengthen Your Family Spiritually
Start a summer devotional. Pray together before meals. Attend church as a family. Let the rhythm of your faith anchor the chaos of summer schedules.
  6. Set Physical Wellness Goals Together
Train for a 5K, start daily walks, or just commit to family hikes once a week. Build health and connection while you sweat.
  7. Have a Family Tech-Free Night Each Week
No phones. No screens. Just presence. Board games, campfires, storytelling—whatever brings your crew together face-to-face.
  8. Serve Someone Together
Mow a neighbor’s lawn. Volunteer at a local shelter. Write letters to deployed soldiers. Serving others builds gratitude and grit in your kids—and reminds you what life’s really about.

This summer, don’t settle for just burgers and baseball. Build something that lasts.

Let’s get intentional about what really matters.

Your family’s legacy is worth it.
